DEVELOPMENT OF GENERAL NURSING & MIDWIFERY MODULE
Introduction :
The development of the General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) module is a crucial step toward enhancing the quality, consistency and standardization of nursing education taken in collaboration by UP State Nursing Council and SIFPSA
AIMS :
This initiative offers diploma nursing students a structured, standardized, easily accessible learning experience aligned with Indian Nursing Council (INC) standards, enhancing theory and practical skills through organized modules. To meet the growing need for standardized nursing education, the program enhances theoretical knowledge and practical skills through structured modules.
Methodology:
To implement this, three committees were formed:
- Authors (faculty)
- Reviewers (principals/professors)
- Final Review and Approval Committee comprising representatives from Directorate general Training, Medical Education, State Nursing Council, nursing specialties, and a technical support agency.
- Eligible contributors include assistant professors and above as authors, and principals or professors as reviewers.
UP State Nursing Council mentor institutes led the content development for ten GNM subjects (4 in the first year, 4 in the second year, and 2 in the third year), involving 110 authors and 33 reviewers. Content undergoes multiple rounds of review and correction before final submission and approval. Once approved, the modules will be published on the UP Medical Education Government website, ensuring wide access for both students and educators.
Conclusion :
This effort not only uplifts educational standards but also equips future nurses with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to meet the evolving demands of patient care. The work on these modules is currently in progress.
