Centralized admission for General Nursing and Midwifery Course

Introduction :

A proposal was made in a meeting chaired by the principal secretary, Govt. of UP to implement an online centralizes admission process for General Nursing and midwifery(GNM) government and private training centers from the academic year 2025-2026 which will be conducted by Atal Bihari Bajpai Medical University.
Currently, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU) manages centralized admissions for B.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, and M.Sc. Nursing.

Aim:

This system ensures transparency, offers candidates the freedom to choose preferred institutes, and fosters healthy competition among training centers. The digitized, merit-based process promotes equity and accessibility while eliminating nepotism and corruption, enabling high-quality candidates to secure seats in their desired institutes.

Approach :

To ensure transparency, admissions to the GNM Diploma program for the 2025–26 academic year will be based on a competitive entrance exam, replacing high school and intermediate merit. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow, will conduct a centralized online admission process for both private and government GNM institutes in Uttar Pradesh.
The exam will cover 19,190 seats across 407 GNM private nursing institutes and 453 seats in 9 government institutes. Details are available in the official advertisement and on the Uttar Pradesh State Medical Faculty website.

Conclusion :

Conducting a centralized entrance exam for GNM admission is a vital step in ensuring that nursing programs attract and retain talented individuals. This approach not only streamlines the admission process but also contributes to the overall quality and integrity of nursing education.
